Remains, March 2003
13" x 19" Prints, Archival Ink on Matte Paper
65" x 76" Wall Piece

On March 19, 2003 the United States declared war on Iraq. That day we gathered a collection of very personal human objects from our homes--eyeglasses, clothing, watches, etc.--bought four lighters and a canister of lighter fluid from the dollar store, and stood in a snow pile, burning and smashing the artifacts. We then took the crushed and burned items and arranged them on a flatbed scanner, creating hyper-realistic digital images of the objects. The resulting prints, delicate and harrowing, would later comprise a large wall piece titled Remains.

We received a 2005 Pennsylvania Council on the Arts grant with a set of slides from the piece Remains, which helped to finance our recent work.
