Washed Away
Washed Away is a project that takes many forms. As part of the installation The Very Long Day, it is a collection of jars and photograhs made by gathering and mixing debris and artifacts. It implies what you might find if your entire neighborhood were blown apart by a natural disaster. Washed Away is also a series of stories, presented in broad sheets and also in a book titled Lost. Lost was inspired by a man named Harvey Jackson who lost his wife to Hurricane Katrina. Harvey was found roaming the streets of Mississippi with his children, after watching his wife get swept away by rushing waters. He will forever be haunted by the image of his wife's fingers slipping away from him, and his loss can never be repayed in dollars or mortgage relief. The Very Long Day The Very Long Day is an installation show, featured at the Art Alliance Gallery in February 2006. The entire space was devoted to helping people remember and reflect on the lives lost to the war in Iraq and hurricanes Katrina and Rita. It featured work from Washed Away, as well as a short film titled The Very Long Day which honors the 2,000+ soliders who died in Iraq by Veteran's Day 2005. We intend to find another space to show The Very Long Day. If you know of space where this installation would be welcome, please contact us.
