How long have you been working together?
We started working together in September of 2001, while enrolled in a Studio Lighting course at Penn State. The relationship proved very fruitful for us as artists, and we continue working together to this day.

Are you guys married or something?
It is rare for artists to collaborate long-term, and when they do, it's usually because they're a married couple. We've worked together for so long that sometimes it feels like we're married, but we're not. We're real friends, though. We get together very early on weekend mornings, like 5 or 6 AM. Sometimes we're photographing with our medium-format cameras (especially on rainy or cloudy mornings), sometimes we're in the studio working on a piece, and sometimes we get lazy and just go yard saling.

Are you guys real artists?
We like to think so. But we aren't fortunate enough to be able to make a living making art (at least not yet). Tara works full-time as an IT geek at Penn State's College of Arts and Architecture. Sharon has a full-time job taking care of her kids and her parents. Most of the money we make from our art goes right back into making more art. Sometimes, it funds a margarita binge.

In case you're wondering how smart we are:

Sharon earned her BFA in Photography with high distinction from the California College of Art in 1990, and her MFA from Penn State University in 2004. She has received the 1996 Fellowship Award from the Women’s Studio Workshop in Rosendale, New York and the 1997 Visual Artist in Residence Award from Studios Midwest in Galesburg, Illinois. She lives in State College, Pennsylvania.

Tara earned her B.S. in Graphic Design and Photography from Penn State University in 2001, and has received the 2001 Leslie P. Greenhill Photography Scholarship and the 2002 University and College Designers Association Award of Excellence. She lives in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania.

How is it possible for two people to take pictures together?
The best way we can explain it is that the entire process is a collaboration. Early on, we found that when we photographed together in the same places, our contact sheets looked so similar that it was impossible to tell whose was whose. So now we just take one camera and pass it back and forth. We tend to have a very similar way of seeing and working.

Do you sell your artwork?
We most definitely sell our artwork. Some pieces are more expensive than others, but we believe art should be affordable for everyone. So if you really love a particular piece, email us and we'll find a way to to make it fit your price range.

Would you ever consider photographing my wedding?
We don't do weddings. It would take a lot of money and a fistful of Paxil to get either of us to photograph a wedding again.

Why is your subject matter always so dark and depressing?
We don't like to think of it that way. We like to think that there are some pretty *#@&ed up things going on in this world, and a lot of people wouldn't know about these things if it weren't for people like us making a stink about it.

Where did the name Little Bush Press come from?
We use this as our publishing name sometimes when we make books. Let's leave it at that.

If you have a burning question, email it is to us. We won't bite.
